As Wimbledon begins coach from thriving Kidderminster Tennis Club scoops runner-up award in national competition

Kidderminster Tennis Club coach Tony Wright was runner-up Children’s Coach of the Year in the LTA Aegon Coach of the Year Awards on Saturday evening. Tony was on a shortlist of five selected from over 3900 registered coaches in the UK.

The four years since Tony began coaching at Kidderminster have seen club membership grow to record levels and over 5000 hours of tuition given to hundreds of youngsters many of whom are now playing senior tennis and entering ranking tournaments.

Tony received his award from former British number one, Greg Rusedski who was fascinated to learn about the great work being done at Kidderminster Tennis Club bringing top quality coaching to new generations of children. Greg asked to visit the club to see for himself the amazing things being achieved on the two outdoor courts in Baxter Gardens Park. Club Chairman, Sue Bradley will be writing to extend a formal invitation to Greg over the next few days and it is hoped that he will be able to attend one of the Open Days being held by the club this year. Greg’s interest will help in Kidderminster Tennis Club’s quest for a third court resulting in more tennis being available for the people of Wyre Forest.

Kidderminster Tennis Club will hold two Open Days on 5th July and 2nd August. The activities start at 1pm and visitors can have a taster session with Tony, a chat with members and maybe even a hit with Greg Rusedski! Tea, coffee and cold drinks will be available.

Details of how to apply for membership can be found on the club’s website: www.kidderminstertennisclub.org or by phoning the Club Secretary, Dave Sadler on 01562 754783.
