2019 Men’s Open Doubles

Yesterday our Men’s Open Doubles was held. With 8 pairs entering there was time on the day for a round robin stage followed by the semi-finals and final. A new format was also used this year with first to 10 supersets used in the group stage and semi final.

The seeded pair in Group A were last years winners Graeme and Tim. Who were joined by 2015 winner Steve and his new partner Gary and our current men’s singles champion Eldin & his partner Kevin with last years runners up Andy & Will completing the group. In group B first time entrants Chris & George from Halesowen were the seeded pair and were joined by the Far Forest pair of George & Marc as well as our Men’s Winter A team captain Jack playing with his Dad Dave and the experienced duo of Dave & Saad.

In the group stage there were some close matches, but it was Andy & Will that won Group A with Steve & Gary as runners up and Chris & George winning Group B with George & Marc as runners up. In the semi-finals Kidderminster’s last hope of a home winner was extinguished when George & Marc of Far Forest defeated Andy & Will 10-7. In the other semi final, the Halesowen pair of Chris & George defeated Steve & Gary of Belbroughton 10-8 in a tightly fought match.

In the final Chris & George showed their class to win the best of 3 sets match 6-2, 6-0 against George & Marc and win the trophy. If you feel like you missed out by not entering we have extended the deadline to enter our Mixed Open on Sunday until the weekend.
